Cumulus have recently announced they’ve introduced a certification programme – involving Linux / BGP and much Open Networking.
It’s an interesting move, and one I think I’ll look into – being a Linux/Cisco/Network-y type at heart it ticks a whole load of boxes.
If you’ve never wondered where this fits in the grand scheme of things, it appears to give a decent networking overview without getting too vendor specific – add to that whitebox is slowly making inroads into some level of L2.
For smaller operators on a budget, Bird/Quagga with some NFSen netflow analysis and additional log analysis is a fairly cheap way to self-protect your network. (hint: route injection via those Open Source projects)
